At Happy Pawn, we’ve turned chess learning into an exciting adventure. In our unique system, students earn element-themed armors, much like colored belts in martial arts, as they progress.

How It Works:

Level 1 – Snow Armor

Amateur (learning how to play):

• knows how to move pieces

• knows how to castle, check, checkmate, promote

• knows the value of the pieces

• knows opening principles

• knows classic checkmates (rook roller, queen’s mate, helper’s mate, back rank mate)

Level 2 – Sand Armor

Scholar (Basic tactics):

• knows the different kinds of forks

• knows opening checkmates and can defend versus them (fool’s mate, scholar mate)

• knows Italian opening • knows “en passant”

• Understand what are doubled pawns and passed pawns

• knows classic checkmates (rook roller, queen’s mate, helper’s mate, back rank mate)

Level 3 – Sun Armor

Explorer (Winning games):

• knows tournament rules

• knows the touch move and release piece rules and how to adjust pieces in a live game

• able to write a chess game

• can play with the clock

• knows more tactical themes (discovered check, discovered attack)

• knows how to win in basic pawn endgames (pawn vs king victory & draw opposition)

• knows positional notions as outposts

• knows tactical notions such as pins, skewers

Level 4 – Leaf Armor

Competitor (tournament compatible):

• Strategy : knows how to create and perform a plan

• Knows more tactical schemes

• Knows Sicilian defense and how to answer it

• Can enter real tournaments and score legit victories

Level 5 – Sky Armor

Challenger (Can top tiers tournaments):

• Knows the pros and cons of trading

• Improved understanding of endgames

• Decent opening repertoire

• Can focus and think variations through in long-paced game

Level 6 – Fire Armor

Expert:

• Knows a lot of checkmates

• Knows advanced tactical concepts

• Large opening repertoire

• Advanced endgames

• Can score top-tiers in tournament

Level 7 – Space Armor

Champion:

• Knows everything about pawns and their structure

• Can win tournaments

• Lethal on checkmate’s patterns

Level 8 – Shadow Armor

Super champion:

• Knows all checkmate that exists

• Top 5% of world chess players

• Must train under a master’s guidance

• Wonderful opening theory knowledge

• Possess good chess culture
